Perhaps one of the most important major works of our time. The Chicago Tribune wrote: “Moving among styles ranging from Lutheran hymnody to blues to Broadway, this modern-day Passion will move many listeners to tears even as it reaches beyond tragedy to peace, understanding, and forgiveness.”
Considering Matthew Shepard tells the story of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old, gay college student beaten and left to die in October 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming. In addition to writing new lyrics, Craig Hella Johnson (with poet Michael Dennis Browne) has taken text from various poets and authors, including Lesléa Newman’s October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard.
Considering Matthew Shepard had its premiere in February 2016 in Austin, Texas by Conspirare and conducted by Craig Hella Johnson. Since then, Conspirare has performed the work in many places throughout the U.S. This production will be the Utah premiere!
